The new minister has a master’s degree in Business Law and is a lawyer specializing in Public Management. She held the position of Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture between December 2022 and April 2024.
During her professional career, she has worked in various public management positions, including positions in the Ministry of Health as advisor, general director, executive director of the Human Resources Administration Office, among others.
She was also the Metropolitan Municipal Manager of the Metropolitan Municipality of Lima, advisor to the Executive Presidency of Essalud, head of Remunerations and Legal Advisor of Corpac, and advisor to Provías Departamental.
Among the tasks pending are continuing negotiations for the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Indonesia and signing the agreement with Hong Kong.
This appointment also comes amid rumors of a possible merger between the Ministries of Foreign Trade and Production.
QUESTIONS
Desilú León replaces Elizabeth Galdo, who leaves the portfolio with some questions. The now ex-minister, for example, had an altercation with a journalist in Cusco when he asked him a question that he didn’t like.
She was also criticized when she announced that Peru would export donkey meat to China.
