After almost two months adrift, the Shareholders’ Meeting finally defined the board of directors of Petroperu and appointed Alejandro Narvaez as president of the state company, at the request of President Dina Boluarte.

Who Alejandro Narvaez? The new head of the oil company is no stranger to this position. Between 2003 and 2005 he already held the same position, when Alejandro Toledo was head of state. Narváez was also executive director of Foncodes.
According to his Linkedin, the economist currently serves as director of the International Institute of Economics and Business, as well as managing director of Hidrocarburos Consulting SAC.
Regarding his political life, according to the Registry of Political Organizations, the brand new president of Petroperu He is currently affiliated with Together for Peru. In addition, he was part of the New Left Movement and Perú Posible. In 2021 he ran for Congress without success.
QUESTIONED DESIGNATION
Before the appointment of Alejandro Narváez was made official, various sectors were against this proposal. From Confiep, for example, they pointed out that it was striking that someone is a politician “and who has questions.”
Among other things, he was also questioned about minimizing the situation of Petroperú, a company that is currently in crisis and with losses of US$745 million so far this year.
