Francisco Vernazza, publicist for Sanguinetti, Mujica and Talvi, and who also carried out the first campaign of the Broad Front in 1971, said in an interview that there is a good moment in terms of rivalries between the political blocks in Uruguay. According to Vernazza, the current struggle between the coalition and the Broad Front is no longer so much ideological, but between forces that seek to show themselves as the most capable of exercising power.
Regarding the current political reality, Vernazza pointed out that there are no major challenges that can be made to the government of Luis Lacalle Pou. Furthermore, he considers that Alvaro Delgado He is a good candidate for the next elections, as long as he can stick with the current president as much as possible. On the other hand, Vernazza believes that Yamandú Orsi is the one who is currently running as the favorite for the 2024 elections.
Regarding the leader of the Broad Front, Carolina Cosse, Vernazza said in this interview with the newspaper The country that she “sells Chapulín Colorado as a substance and that one does not know what she is referring to.” In his opinion, there is no gap, since the groups “have converged and abandoned, almost with written complaints, the pillars that made their projects really different.” In his opinion, political processes do not belong to a government, but to generations, and things change visibly in 20 or 30 years.
When asked who would have the best chance of becoming president, at least in the Broad Front, he replied: “Because of this very thing that there are no big flags, that they all walk with flags, the basket of factors for which one leans to one side or the other is heterogeneous. One can say ‘I’m with Andrade’, because he’s tough, he says it to his face and he’s a communist, but at the same time it can happen that someone wants to avoid Andrade and wonders if he won’t be too much of a window breaker. What Orsi transmits is the ability to converge: he gets the loan, Carola breaks down to do it and she doesn’t get it”.
A fight beyond the ideological
Vernazza emphasizes in the conversation with the newspaper that at this moment the process of political maturation is what allows figures like Mujica to travel with Lacalle Pou to Braziland that in general, this political maturation is positive because it allows a greater convergence between the blocks.
Regarding the influence of social networks in politics, the communicator affirms that they have generated a game without flags, where the main thing is to have someone who you want to displace. In this game, the problem is not so much politics but communication, since politicians must generate elements that are pleasing to their audience to achieve notoriety. In addition, the increase in aggressiveness among political protagonists is a phenomenon generated by the use of social networks as a tool to achieve notoriety.
