London. The World Health Organization (WHO) is collaborating with the Cambodian authorities after confirming two human cases of H5N/1 avian influenza in a family in that country.
After qualifying the situation worrying
Due to the recent increase in cases in birds and mammals, Sylvie Briand, director of Epidemic and Pandemic Preparedness and Prevention, reported that the WHO is reviewing its global risk assessment.
The last time he assessed the risk of that disease to humans was at the beginning of the month.
Cambodian authorities reported the death of an 11-year-old girl from the H5N/1 virus last Thursday and began testing 12 of her contacts. Her father, who had shown symptoms, also tested positive.
The global situation of H5N/1 is concerning, given its widespread spread in birds around the world and increasing reports of cases in mammals, including humans.
Briand declared.
WHO urges all countries to intensify surveillance
he added.
Briand said it is not yet clear whether there had been transmission between people or whether the two cases were due to the same environmental conditions
probably close contact with infected birds or other animals.
Health officials are looking for the origin of the outbreak. Apparently dead birds were found in a lake near the village where the girl lived.
