In mid-May, a complaint by the Feminist Intersocial was made known to the Attorney General of the Nation, Juan Gómez, referring to the fact that the Sexual Crimes Prosecutor, Raúl Iglesias, filed some 300 cases in just over a week of work.
As a result of the events, the prosecutor Iglesia explained that he decided to file the cases, “not because he is the bad guy in the movie, but because they are cases that have not moved for two years or more and cannot prosper, because there is no useful evidence. ”.
For his part, the court prosecutor, Juan Gómez, ordered an administrative investigation, which determined that Iglesias filed some 299 cases in record time. For this reason, Iglesias was removed from the position with the withholding of 50% of his salary.

The senator of the National Party, Graciela Bianchi, questioned the decision of the court prosecutor due to a difference in attitude with respect to other causes, such as Operation Ocean or the raid on the home of journalist Ignacio Álvarez.
Bianchi said that he will promote Gomez’s summons to Parliament.
Such decision of the nationalist legislator generated annoyance in the Broad Front. Senator Charles Carrera said that Bianchi’s proposal is a “clear interference with the justice system.”
“If the administrative head of a service cannot initiate a summary to analyze the file of sensitive causes in less than two minutes and, furthermore, if there is a complaint from a victim and he does nothing, then where are we?” Carrera questioned.
For his part, from the Colorado Party, deputy and former prosecutor Gustavo Zubía said that the decision made regarding Iglesias was predictable. “Prosecutor Iglesias, a brave prosecutor, stands up against a system that works under pressure and tolerates thousands of files from some and does not accept much less from others. He commits the mortal sin of saying no to lobbyists.”
He also stated that the information that Iglesias dedicated only a few minutes to various causes is “erroneous or false.” He added that the prosecutor works outside the system, on paper or in the Public Security Management System (SGSP) and can only open the Information System of the Accusatory Criminal Process of Uruguay (SIPPAU) to make the hearing, not to study it. ”.
On the other hand, Zubía once again proposed to President Luis Lacalle Pou that he “re-study the Prosecutor’s Office issue, to appoint a titular Attorney General, or a triumvirate, and avoid the current state”, a position that also has the support of Cabildo Abierto.
