Led by the Cuban ambassador to Colombia, Javier Caamaño, a cultural event took place in the Policarpa neighborhood in this capital, in which the attendees highlighted the importance of the word and action of the most universal of all Cubans.
Members of the Colombian Movement of Solidarity with Cuba, residents of the Antillean island here, students and teachers of the José Martí school and members of the Havana embassy in Bogotá, highlighted the validity of the humanist and emancipatory thought of the National Hero.
In statements to Prensa Latina, the ambassador highlighted the week dedicated to the Master, in which there was a virtual meeting, in which several houses of solidarity, connoisseurs and academics of the life and work of Martí delved into some of his works such as the essay Our America.
In addition, they highlighted how Martí glimpsed the nascent US imperialism, the need for Latin American integration based on its diversity, and advanced the concept of Our America.
The Cuban embassy and the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples were present at each presentation and those days demonstrated a great knowledge in Colombia of Martí’s work, the diplomat highlighted.
In addition, a great respect and admiration for the life and work of José Martí and a great love and affection for Cuba on the part of the Colombian people, he stressed.
“This event contributed to enrich everyone’s knowledge about the Apostle, to strengthen bilateral relations and above all to prepare for the 170th anniversary of the birth of the National Hero of Cuba,” said Caamaño.
Songs, poems, dramatized, a dissertation on his biography by Cuban professor and academic Josué Otto de Quesada, and the placement of a crown of white roses on the bust of the Apostle that stands out in a park in the popular neighborhood, were part of the celebration .
