Through social programs and missions, Maduro intends to improve the infrastructure of temples, create radio and television spaces, and even articulate social protection plans with the Christian Church.
President Nicolás Maduro announced a series of plans and programs to support the Evangelical Church within the framework of a meeting with pastors belonging to this religious belief, which proclaims itself as the fastest growing and expanding in the Venezuelan population.
Maduro’s measures intend to allocate resources to social missions to restore temples, support those in need through evangelical volunteering and even create television and radio programs to spread the word of this current of Christianity.
These plans are promoted in the midst of a confrontation between sectors of the Catholic Church and Chavismo, since Maduro has lashed out on various occasions against Catholic actors and especially the Venezuelan Episcopal Conference (CEV), accusing them of becoming political actors in favor of the Venezuelan opposition.
Last Saturday, January 14, Monsignor Víctor Hugo Basabe officiated a mass to celebrate the procession of the Divina Pastora, an event in which he criticized the state of the Venezuelan economy. Since then, he has been lashed out by political leaders and institutions linked to Chavismo, to the point where he 88 priests from the Archdiocese of Barquisimeto came out in defense of Besabe.
Between bickering with representatives of the clergy, Maduro now shows his rapprochement with evangelical pastors with this package of measures, after also recalling that since last year the Government has intervened in 1,245 temples and has improved the infrastructure of 2,500 churches, in addition to having registered more than 13,915 pastors to “support, help and accompany them”.
«There is still a long way to go. We have made progress in social plans, but we must increase. We have to go for more », he affirmed.
These measures will be promoted, in the first place, through the Great Mission Venezuela Bella. With the “My Well-Equipped Church” plan, Chavismo proposes a mechanism for the restoration and beautification of temples, churches, and parish houses that parishioners use for their activities.

On the other hand, he indicated that another special program called “Social Church” would be launched, which would serve as a means of support for the most needy citizens. It would be articulated with the participation of Christian volunteers through food houses, donations and social aid through the Patria System.
In addition, he reported that he would help launch a television program called Corazón Cristiano, in which “meeting spaces would be promoted in different groups of apostolates and Christian churches framed in a specific agenda of cultural and spiritual actions.”
Finally, he ordered the president of the National Telecommunications Commission (Conatel), Jorge Márquez, to set up a technical table to “give full support to the Christian Church for Christian radio broadcasting.
