CDMX, Mexico.- At a time when the country is experiencing one of its worst economic crises, translated into the total lack or scarcity of basic goods such as food or medicines, the Cuban State dedicates part of its budget to its usual propaganda activities, as if there was money left over.
Yesterday the first International Meeting of Theoretical Publications of Left-wing Political Parties and Movements began. The event was convened by the magazine “Cuba Socialista”, a theoretical and political organ of the Communist Party of Cuba.
The official press media have publicized the event without detailing, much less questioning, how much it has cost the country to host this activity in which almost a hundred personalities from 34 countries participate, and some 40 Cuban thinkers and academics consistent with the dictatorship. .
Along with this, the island receives food donations from other countries due to the current serious shortage. At the end of last January, Algeria sent 180 tons of food, mostly oil and sugar.úcar. These two basic products of the basket have presented an unstable supply in the country’s warehousess. In several municipalities they have not distributed those corresponding to January. Currently, a bottle of oil in Cuba has come to cost a thousand pesos, more than a quarter of the average salary on the island.
Regarding the political space, the portal refers cubadebate that the meeting takes place in the Casa de las Américas, in Havana, and has the purpose of debating “about the challenges of the progressive forces in today’s world”.
Once again, the authorities of Cuba they use their hackneyed speech to ask for resistance and faith to achieve victories. Rogelio Polanco, head of the Ideological Department of the Central Committee commented at the inauguration: “We must cultivate faith in victory because without it we will not be able to move mountains.”
The trained journalist also alluded to the criticism that the dictatorship he represents receives for being incapable of providing citizens with essential resources.
“We are facing an unconventional war and political subversion that tries to show Cuba as a failed state, but these actions are doomed to failure,” he said.
Present at the opening of the meeting were Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and Secretary of Organization; Rogelio Polanco Fuentes, head of the Ideological Department of the Central Committee; Emilio Lozada García, head of the Department of International Relations of the Central Committee; Alpidio Alonso, Minister of Culture, and Abel Prieto, President of Casa de las Américas.
