This Saturday, at the age of 80, the singer-songwriter and folklorist Tito Fernández, who was a chronic patient at the Hospital in the capital of Los Lagos, died at his home in Puerto Montt, due to various basic diseases that afflicted him. The death of the popular musician occurred in his home, in the company of his family. Out of respect for those close to him, the healthcare facility declined to provide further information on his death.

In his artistic facet, Fernández was one of the most prominent figures in Chilean musical history. Songs like “La Casa Nueva” or “Me gusta el vino” are part of the country’s collective memory. Her musical library has more than 40 albums, from the first one that was released in 1971 under the name “El Temucano” and that was produced by Ángel Parra, until 2006 with “Tonada y tradición”.

The singer-songwriter, real name Humberto Baeza Fernández, had been accused in his last years of sexual crimes, for which he was awaiting trial for the allegations against him, which was postponed until today due to his deteriorated condition. of health. It should be remembered that the “Temucano” was charged with the crimes of sexual abuse and rape. Against him there were complaints from three women who participated in his Center for Metaphysical Studies (CIEM) -founded in the midst of the military dictatorship-, where an alleged “sect” called “Tallis” developed.

According to the accusations, the artist and “spiritual leader” of the aforementioned center took advantage of the emotional vulnerability of the victims to commit sexual crimes between February 2010 and March 2016. In fact, on December 14, the musician He turned himself in before the Guarantee Court of Puerto Montt, because the justice issued an arrest warrant, since he had not appeared at the beginning of the hearing to prepare the oral trial against him. In detail, the Central North Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office requested a total of 34 years in prison for the artist, broken down into 12 years, 10 years and one day and another 12 years, for each of the victims.

An outstanding musical career, which however was overshadowed in recent years by these accusations. This was the life of one of the most important figures of national folklore during the second half of the 20th century, who died leaving a stain around her. As confirmed by those close to the artist’s family, her remains will be veiled this Sunday at the Esperanza Funeral Home, located in the capital of the Los Lagos Region.
