Which are the municipalities with the most complaints in Peru according to the Ombudsman's Office

The Ombudsman’s Office presented a list of provincial and district municipalities with the most complaints in Lima and regions, as well as what were the issues for which the intervention of this institution was requested. This valuable information is provided within the framework of the 2022 Regional and Municipal Elections, which will be held this Sunday, October 2.

According to the report, which incorporates information from all the offices of the Ombudsmanduring the period covered between January 2019 and August 2022, the ranking of provincial municipalities with the highest number of complaints founded, that is, with accreditation of the violation of a right are:

  • Provincial Municipality of Callao, with 650 complaints.
  • Provincial Municipality of Santa, with 622 complaints.
  • Provincial Municipality of Chiclayo, with 399 cases.

They are followed by the provincial municipalities of San Román, Trujillo, Jaén, Huamanga, Huaraz and Tumbes.

Districts with the most complaints

In the classification at the level of district municipalities with the most complaints, the following lead the national ranking:

  • District Municipality of San Martín de Porres, with 378 complaints.
  • Municipality of San Juan de Miraflores, with 261 complaints.
  • Municipality of Villa María del Triunfo, with 232 cases.

They are followed by the Municipality of La Victoria, Santiago de Surco, Independencia, Ate, San Juan de Lurigancho and the District Municipality of Nuevo Chimbote.

What are the complaints filed

According to the same report, the complaints corresponded in the first place to municipal issues (29.6%), among which are the lack of quality in municipal services and attention to neighborhood complaints, as well as proper control of commercial activitieswith a total of 3,616 complaints.

The second place is occupied by the paperwork and procedural issues (24.3%) and had to do with unjustified delays and irregular administrative acts, with more than 5 thousand cases.

Then there are labor-related complaints, with 961 complaints referring to breach of labor obligations; followed by problems in the provision of public services and compliance with the duty of transparency and access to information, both with more than 3,700 cases.

The Ombudsman’s Office reported that it implemented the communication campaign #InformateYChoosewhose objective is to ensure that the people who will go to vote in the Regional and Municipal Elections on October 2, Do it consciously and responsibly.
