Gender pay gap in Mexico
These are the average daily wages of men and women in the formal sector at national and regional levels, and the wage gap as a percentage, according to Banxico.
According to Banxico’s information, the wage gap can be attributed to individual characteristics, both of workers and companies. For this reason, an analysis was carried out to determine how they participate in the inequality of remuneration, which you can see in the following graph.
Banxico explains that part of the gap is because women participate in companies and jobs with lower salaries than men.
According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), the factors that influence the pay gap are differences in education and training based on gender, work experience, gender-based job segregation, type of work (full-time and part-time), company size or even the name that determines the same jobs, which differentiate the name and salary according to sex.
