Colombia reaffirms its position as an academic power in Latin America by standing out in the most recent QS 2026 Ranking for Latin America and the Caribbeanwhich evaluates the reputation and performance of higher education institutions in the region.
One of the most valued aspects of the study is the reputation among employersan indicator that measures how well companies perceive the quality and preparation of graduates from each university.
In this edition, the country achieved an outstanding performance: eight Colombian universities were among the 50 with the best labor reputation and three of them entered the Latin American top 10an achievement that reinforces the confidence of the regional labor market in professional talent trained in Colombia.
Los Andes, Nacional and Javeriana: the most in-demand profiles
Topping the national list, the University of the Andes got a perfect score of 100 points in employer reputationwhich makes it the institution whose graduates are most sought after by companies.
Very close is the National University of Colombiawhich equals the maximum score, and the Pontifical Javeriana Universitywith 99.6 points.
Its recognition responds not only to academic quality, but also to the development of soft skills, leadership and adaptability of its graduates in highly competitive work contexts.
Bogotá leads, Medellín consolidates and the regions advance
Although the capital concentrates most of the prominent institutions, the panorama shows sustained growth in other cities. in the positions 18 and 19 appear the University of La Sabana and the Externado University of Colombiaboth with 92.8 pointsfollowed by the Rosario University (91.5) and the EAFIT from Medellín (88.7).
The University of Antioquiaalso in the capital of Antioquia, managed 82.8 pointswhile the Industrial University of Santander (UIS) remains firmly on the list with 72.8 points.
At intermediate levels there are institutions that have strengthened their links with the productive sector, such as the Northern University (66.6), the Pontifical Bolivarian University (59.7) and the Valley University (52.9). In the group also appear the ICESI (39.5), the University of Medellin (23.9), the EIAthe Pereira Technology and the De La Salle Universityamong others.
In total, More than half of the Colombian universities included in the ranking have their main headquarters in Bogotáwhich confirms the weight of the capital in the educational system and in the concentration of job opportunities. Medellín, for its part, is consolidated as the second major academic center in the countrywith the presence of five prominent institutions.
This is how QS measures reputation among employers
The ranking of Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) uses a comprehensive methodology based on six evaluation axes. In the case of employability, the two main indicators are:
- Employer reputation (15%)which measures the perception that companies have about the quality of graduates through surveys administered to more than 100,000 employers around the world.
- Employment results (5%)which evaluates the capacity of universities to insert their graduates into the labor market and the impact of their alumni in different sectors.
These two indicators, which together represent 20% of the total score, are complemented by other factors such as academic reputation, citations per document, production per professor and international presenceoffering a broader view of institutional performance.
Colombia, among the regional leaders in educational quality
With 67 universities rankedColombia occupies second regional place in number of recognized institutions, equal to Mexico and only below Brazil, which has 130. Although 38% of national universities dropped positions compared to the previous year, The country maintains 12 institutions within the top 100 Latin American institutionsmatching Argentina’s performance.
The University of the Andes continues to be the best positioned in the country, in the regional position 8followed by the National University (12) and the Pontifical Javeriana University (18). Among the 100 best are also the University of Antioquia (20)he Rosary (27)the Savannah (34), EAFIT (57)he North (58)he Valley (66)he Externship (79)the Bolivarian Pontifical (80) and the UIS (91).
The report also highlights the progress of the University of La Sabana and the Pontifical Bolivarian Universitywho managed to climb positions thanks to internationalization strategies, institutional strengthening and better investigative performance.
