The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) has asked the State of Nicaragua to free the women who, due to their recognized leadership in the civic struggle, “have faced more severe measures.” They point out that the women have been subjected to prolonged isolation, threats and constant interrogations.
For their part, lawyer Yonarqui Martínez and sociologist Elvira Cuadra demanded that the regime allow the current state of defenders to be seen. Why don’t they show them? What are they hiding? So far there are 14 women deprived of their liberty, among which are the well-known opponents: Cristiana Chamorro, Violeta Granera, Tamara Dávila, Suyen Barahona, Dora María Téllez, Ana Margarita Vijil, María Fernanda Flores, María Oviedo, Nidia Barbosa, Evelyn Pinto and Samantha Jirón.

Human rights defenders have demanded that the State end structural violence against women, the cessation of sexual violence used as a method of torture in the country’s prison system, and justice “because Nicaraguans deserve to live in safety, free from violence and discrimination.” .
In turn, they have requested that the rights of the hostages of the regime be respected and that they be released, since they assure that “they have not committed any crime”, on the contrary, they have only denounced the repressive actions of the regime.
This August 30, the regime showed 10 political prisoners after more than a year in captivity. The hostages of conscience who were seen this Tuesday are: Juan Sebastián Chamorro, José Antonio Peraza, Medardo Mairena, Michael Healy, Lesther Alemán, Max Jerez, Miguel Mora, Marcos Fletes, Walter Gómez and Pedro Vásquez who present “serious deterioration » in your physical state.
