WHEN WILL I KNOW IF I AM A TABLE MEMBER?

On July 24 there will be a draw for table members and it is estimated that there will be 500,000. In this regard, the deputy manager of electoral investigation of the ONPE, José Carlos Urbina, indicated that, Starting in August, the list of citizens who have been elected members of the polling station will be published. Then, face-to-face and digital training channels will be enabled through ONPE.

HOW ARE BOARD MEMBERS CHOSEN?

The polling station members are chosen, through a draw, from a list of twenty-five citizens selected from among the voters of the polling station. That selection can be done with computer systems. For the selection, preference is given to citizens with a higher degree of education from the corresponding Board or to those who have not yet carried out said work.

The selection and lottery process is in charge of the ONPE and the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (Reniec). Three regular members and another three members, who have the quality of substitutes, are raffled.

WHAT ARE THE PENALTIES FOR NOT VOTING IN THE UPCOMING ELECTIONS?

The fine is the economic sanction imposed on citizens who did not comply with their duty to vote and/or did not attend or refused to integrate the voting table as head or substitute, in a given electoral process. Keep in mind that if you did not go to vote and you are a polling station member, you must pay two fines.

If you didn’t go to vote

It depends on the economic state:

  • Not poverty: $92.
  • Poor: $46.
  • Extreme poberty: $23.

If you are a table member

  • Headlines and substitutes: S/230 for not being a table member.

WHO CANNOT BE ELECTED BOARD MEMBERS?

Next, who are the citizens who cannot exercise the position of member of the polling station.

  • Candidates and representatives of political organizations.
  • Officials and employees of the organizations that make up the Peruvian Electoral System.
  • The members of the Public Ministry who, during election day, perform functions related to the prevention and investigation of electoral crimes.
  • Officials from the Ombudsman’s Office who carry out electoral supervision.
  • The political authorities.
  • Authorities or representatives from popular election.
  • The citizens who make up the steering committees of the political organizations registered in the National Elections Jury.
  • The spouses and relatives within the second degree of consanguinity or affinity between the members of the same table.
  • The spouses and relatives within the second degree of consanguinity or affinity of the candidates who reside in the scope of the jurisdiction in which they apply.
  • Voters temporarily absent from the Republic, in accordance with the corresponding reports sent by the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status.
  • Active members of the Armed Forces and the National Police of Peru who carry out activities related to the development of electoral processes.
  • Members of the General Corps of Volunteer Firefighters of Peru.

WHEN WILL I KNOW WHICH MY POLLING LOCATION WILL BE?

In the month of September, the 24 million 760 thousand 62 voters will be able to know where they have to vote. Citizens will first be informed that they have chosen their polling place. “As of September 1, the ONPE will send you an email, which has been provided by the voter at the time of doing the online process, in which it will be indicated which of the three places that were prioritized has been chosen”the official explained. The rest of the voters, which is the vast majority, will be informed in the following days.
