The citizen recalled that when the price of regular gasoline rose, people were angry but there were no protests like the current ones, and even less so the truck drivers, who are now demonstrating strongly against the increase in diesel fuel.

News Colombia.

The truckers’ strike that has broken out in Colombia in recent days has generated a climate of tension and uncertainty in the country, especially due to the recent rise in the price of diesel, an essential fuel for the transporters’ union.

This situation has triggered blockades in several strategic sectors of the national territory, affecting not only mobility but also the supply of basic products in some regions.

The government has attempted to mediate the situation by organising talks with representatives of transporters. However, efforts to keep the lines of communication open and reach an agreement have been largely unsuccessful, as truckers, concerned about the economic impact of this increase on their activity, have decided to take action on their own, exerting pressure through blockades in key areas of the country.

“When they raised the price of gasoline, they didn’t support us”

The reactions of the citizens were not long in coming. While some support the struggle of the truckers’ union, others have shown their disagreement with the methods used, pointing out that the blockades affect millions of people who depend on transport for their daily activities.

This situation has been aggravated by the fact that, when the price of regular gasoline increased constantly, there were no similar protests by truck drivers.

People were generally upset but accepted the increase, understanding the difficult economic situation of the country, although this meant a blow to the pockets of many.

One of the testimonies that has resonated the most is that of Argemiro Araújo, a passenger affected by the blockades in Santander, who, during an interview at the TRO Channelexpressed his displeasure not only at the interruption of his trip, but also at what he considers a lack of solidarity from the transporters’ union.

Araújo recalled that when the price of regular gasoline rose, no one protested, and even less so the truck drivers, who are now protesting strongly against the increase in diesel fuel.

The situation remains uncertain, and although it is hoped that the dialogue tables proposed by the Government will find a solution, tension on the roads and social unrest continue to increase.
