The act of handing over a water project in Oruro, the land of birth of Evo Morles, was the setting used by the Vice President, David Choquehuanca, to question the leadership model imposed from the Chapare. For the country’s second authority, leadership cannot be from a single person and that from above you should look at the bases.
“Sometimes we think that the most important are sitting up here, we want to be sitting here, but the most important are you, the most important are the bases,” Choquehuanca explained.
The vice president referred to an example to emphasize his message. “The most important thing in a building are the foundations, When the bases move, those at the top tremble, brothers, they don’t know what to doso the most important thing is the people”, he reflected in a discourse full of examples of corruption and the exercise of power.
There is an internal struggle between the MAS and the Government that has already reached the highest level. For months, the struggle between Evo Morales, as head of the MAS, and Luis Arce, as President of the State, has been intense. Both have deployed a low-intensity electoral campaign ahead of the 2025 elections.
The second authority of the country again blamed social media as the authors of the internal division of his party and said that they foment this division so that the transnational companies keep the natural resources.
“When we are beginning to improve They come through social networks to make us fight each otherbut they are not going to achieve it because our people have already woken up, because now we think with our heads, before they told us ‘you can’t think’, now it is not like that”, he pointed out in another part of the speech.
In another hint against the masista leader, he reminded him that the leadership must learn that there are other people who can take responsibility, either in a community or in a government. “Leaders have to do what the people want and we know what we want, in vain for 500 years they have tried to destroy us and they did not succeed,” he said.
Evo Morales tried to extend himself as a permanent MAS candidate through a referendum that he lost in 2016. Despite this, he supported himself in the one authorized by the Constitutional Court. Now, the masista statute declares him as lifelong leader of the MAS and his adherents again proclaimed him as a candidate for the Presidency.
“Power is not concentrated in a single person, what does our Wiphala tell us, it tells us we are all the same and we all have to assume, learn to assume responsibilities, we are assuming those responsibilities”, said Choquehuanca.
