When will be Ash Wednesday 2023?
The lent It is a period of the liturgical calendar that marks the Catholic Church through which believers prepare for the Easter party that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Palm Sunday.
This year that start is scheduled for Wednesday, February 22.
The word Lent comes from the Latin “quadragésima” which means 40 days before Easter, a religious period characterized by fasting and abstinence from meat.
What does Ash mean?
On Ash Wednesday, Christians receive ash on the forehead of their head as a sign of repentance and commitment to reconciliation, in view of the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus.
Ash is the best known sign of Lent and has six meanings:
- Recognize that you are a sinner and have offended God and your neighbor.
- Express to the community a sincere repentance.
- Ask the Church to pray for conversion.
- Publicly express your commitment to change.
- Commitment to do penance for the sins committed.
- Be willing to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
