The WhatsApp messaging service expanded the size of files that can be sent between users from 100 MB to 2 GB. At the moment, this possibility is only available in Argentina, although the messages can be received anywhere in the world.
The expansion to 2 GB, for which it requires an update of the application, only supports the sending of documents, not multimedia files, such as photos, videos and audio messages.
According to local media, the choice of Argentina to test this modification is due to the number of users in the country and the variety of devices.
“It’s important to be able to give users the freedom to send larger files and documents,” the company said in a statement. “We listen to users, respond to their requests and lifestyle by increasing the current limit on the size of files that can be sent by WhatsApp from 100 MB to 2 GB,” the text adds.
In addition, it is detailed that this modification can be accessed by users from Android devices, iPhone, web and desktop WhatsApp.
