President Biden called Florida’s anti-transgender legislation “almost sinful.” “It’s just terrible what they’re doing,” he said.
Florida Republican lawmakers have introduced a series of bills to roll back the rights of LGBTQ communities.
During an “in-depth” interview at the White House with host Kal Penn, he asked the president about his “evolvement” on marriage equality and what the federal government could do to protect LGBTQ Americans, about all to the trans kids who are dealing with all these regressive state laws.
“I can remember exactly when my epiphany was,” he replied. He said that he was a senior in high school when he saw “two well-dressed men in suits, kissing. I’ll never forget it, I turned and looked at my dad, who said, ‘Joey, it’s simple. They love each other. It’s that easy. It doesn’t matter if it’s a straight or same-sex couple, you should be able to get married. What is the problem?'”.
Biden said: “What’s happening in Florida is, as my mother would say, almost sinful.”
And he stressed: “It’s not like, you know, if a child wakes up one morning and says: ‘You know, I decided that I want to become a man or I want to become a woman or I want to change.’ I mean, what are they thinking? They are human beings. love. They have feelings.”
“It’s cruel,” he emphasized. “And the way to protect those people is “for us to make sure we pass legislation like the one we passed on same-sex marriage. Whoever messes with that is breaking the law and will have to be held accountable, ”he concluded.
