Ecuador is positioned as the second economy with the highest remuneration in the region, only behind Uruguay.
Following the decision of the President of the Republic, Guillermo Lasso, the Salary Basic Unified (SBU) in Ecuador will be $ 425 in 2022. The increase of more than 6% places the country as the second South American economy with the salary highest minimum.
For next year, Uruguay will go from a monthly salary of 17,930 Uruguayan pesos to 22,245 Uruguayan pesos. If converted to dollars, this is $ 502.85; that is, almost $ 78 more than in Ecuador.
Third, Chile, hit by political instability, has seen its Salary Basic in dollars due to the devaluation of the Chilean peso. Thus, for 2021, a minimum salary of between $ 399 and $ 402 is expected.
In fourth place, and fifth place, are Paraguay and Argentina, respectively. In the case of the Paraguayan economy, the Salary Basic is projected at around $ 336. For its part, in the Argentine economy, after several increases programmed from September 2021 to February 2022, there will be a salary minimum of $ 320.63. However, this value in dollars can vary radically due to the constant devaluations of the national currency.
Likewise, in fifth place, is Bolivia with a Salary Basic around $ 313 per month.
Ecuador’s closest neighbors have lower levels. On the one hand, Colombia will have a salary of $ 257.3, after the 10% increase agreed between employers and employees.
For Peru, although there is still no decision made for 2022, an increase of at least 5% is expected from the current level of $ 229.49 per month.
Finally, the Brazilian economy is expected to increase from the current $ 207 to almost $ 213 per month.
Out of all comparison is Venezuela, where the Salary Basic, with a few bolivars almost worthless, reaches less than $ 2 a month. (JS)
