Two other deaths from the same challenge

One is that of Lalani Erika Renee Walton, an eight-year-old girl from Texas, died on July 15, 2021 in what police determined was “a direct result of attempting the TikTok blackout challenge.”
It is about a minor who often posted videos of herself singing and dancing, hoping to become “famous on TikTok”.
“She also believed that if she posted a video of her doing the Blackout Challenge, she would become famous, so she decided to give it a try,” the complaint explains. And she adds: “Lalani was eight years old and she did not appreciate or understand the dangerous nature of what TikTok was encouraging her to do.”
The other victim named in the lawsuit was nine-year-old Arriani Jaileen Arroyo, who received a phone when she was seven and “little by little became obsessed” with posting dance videos on TikTok and became “addicted” to the app.
On February 26, 2021 Arroyo was found not breathing by her five-year-old brother and could not be resuscitated.
