The Cúcuta authorities confirmed on the afternoon of Wednesday, December 17, the lifeless discovery of Judge Vivian Polanía in her apartment, located in the Ceiba II neighborhood, in the capital of Norte de Santander. The case has generated commotion both in the city and in the judicial sphere of the country, while the proceedings continue to clarify what happened.
Next to the official’s body, her son was found, a baby barely two months old, who was alive. The minor was urgently transferred to a private clinic in the city for a medical evaluation, because it is unknown how long he remained alone inside the building before the authorities entered.

According to preliminary information, it was the judge’s security scheme that gave the alert after arriving at the building to provide accompaniment and receiving no response after several minutes knocking on the apartment door. Given the situation, the National Police was notified and went to the scene to verify what happened.
Once the authorities entered the property, they found the judge’s body in one of the rooms, with the minor by her side. Illegal substances, specifically cocaine, were also found at the scene, according to the Blu Radio station, an element that is now part of the evidentiary material collected at the scene.
In dialogue with the station, Fabio Ojeda, colonel of the Cúcuta Police, revealed that the judge’s body showed no signs of violence. He also did not confirm whether the reason for the judge’s death was due to an overdose since he apologized to journalist Néstor Morales, telling him that this is part of the reservation in the investigation.
The judicial authorities are carrying out the corresponding investigations to clearly establish the causes of death. Preliminarily, the case is being handled under the hypothesis of a possible attack on his own life, although other lines of investigation are not ruled out while the forensic and testimonial analyzes progress.
It should be remembered that Vivian Polanía had been the subject of investigations in 2023 for alleged inappropriate behavior that occurred inside the Cúcuta Courthouse. This background will also be taken into account by the investigators in the process of clarifying the facts.
