The White House issued a release after the meeting of more than an hour held by the presidents Joe Biden and Luis Lacalle Pou in washington.
The text indicates that the president of the United States praised Uruguay as a “regional and global model of democratic governance“. Biden also congratulated the Uruguayan president on the gold badge, the award that he will receive on Tuesday night in New York from the Forum of the Americas Society and the Council of the Americas (Ascoa).
Lacalle traveled at midnight on Monday from Montevideo and is scheduled to return to the country on Friday, June 16. This Tuesday, at the last moment, he was summoned by the White House to a meeting with Biden and he left there on the plane from New York.
The White House statement adds that Biden “applauded President Lacalle Pou for his support for Ukrainehis defense of the principles of fundamental freedoms in Venezuela and his commitment to ensure that the Association of the Americas for Economic Prosperity accelerates regional integration, inclusive economic prosperity and greater opportunity through sustainable trade and investment”.
“President Biden and President Lacalle Pou also explored ways to expand the bilateral economic relationshipincrease joint efforts to combat climate change and further strengthen the security cooperation“, says the brief statement from the United States government.
The meeting, of more than an hour, took place in the White House in Washington and was produced by invitation from the US president.
As indicated in the protocol, the meeting was also attended by the Foreign Minister Francisco Bustillo and the Uruguay’s ambassador to the United States, Andrés Durán.
The EFE agency pointed out that they talked about global issues and issues on which to work together. On behalf of the White House were the Deputy National Security Adviser, Jonathan Finer, and Biden’s main adviser for Latin America, Juan González.
The official Uruguayan delegation is also made up of the Secretary of the Presidency, Alvaro Delgado, and the industry minister, Omar Paganini.
