The mayor of the National District, Carolina Mejiareported this Thursday that this entity and the Government, through the Ministry of Public Works, are investing close to 600 million pesos in the reconstruction of sidewalks and containers.
It is a national program that the Government began last year that has a cost of more than 72 billion pesos and that in the capital city includes the intervention of streets and avenues in the three constituencies.
Mejía said that it is an important project that seeks to improve the quality of life of citizens by making resources more efficient. The Mayor’s Office has already completed the reconstruction of sidewalks in Gascue and Naco and is preparing to work in other areas.
“We have coordinated to avoid that we program an intervention in the same place as them (Public Works) to make resources more efficient, that is why it is good to work with this brother government that is a friendly government with which we can socialize”he indicated.
He argued that in the same way they have been working on the case of the “Cristo Park” park, in Cristo Rey, together with the Santo Domingo Aqueduct and Sewerage Corporation (CAASD) directed by Felipe Suberví (Fellito).
On the other hand, the mayor of the National District indicated that they are currently working on a new tender for the solid waste collection contract that includes modalities generated by the growth of the city.
He indicated that the existing contracts date back some 16 years and that now it is necessary to take into account the way many people dump waste and other aspects based on current needs that modify the terms of reference for new contracts.
“It is a great opportunity that we have, before the city was divided into three districts for the purposes of these contracts and there were some special spaces, from this next tender it will be with a greater number of lots or spaces, where it will be possible to participate to deal specifically with them and we are looking at the part of education”, he explained.
He recalled that from a transactional agreement that was made a little over a year ago, the Mayor’s Office renegotiated the terms of the contract with the collection companies that previously collected waste and were paid by the ton, but that is not the case now, which has allowed them to save 425 million pesos and reduce the city’s debt by 522 million pesos.
He said that in the case of the foundations that collect waste in the northern part, they must adjust to the new requirements.
