What the JCE says about political activism

Although political activism captured all eyes this past weekend and was branded as politic campaign, political organizations did not violate the resolution of the Central Electoral Board (JCE), which regulates the stage prior to the pre-campaign politics of the 2024 elections.

Given the recidivism of the political parties in carrying out massive swearing-ins, the regulations that govern this process establish that these are not considered political proselytism because they are carried out in restricted places and areas where free transit is not hindered, nor are activities that are interrupted. habitually performs citizenship.

The electoral body in October 2021 issued the resolution 28/2021with which the pre-campaign stage is regulated politics. In this sense, after several considerable appeals submitted by various political parties, said resolution was modified.

The resources were filed at that time by the parties of the Dominican Liberation (PLD) Y People’s Forcefor which the JCE issued resolution 2-2022.

According to the resolution, “aspiring candidates could hold meetings inside the premises of their parties, in closed places and restricted areas.”

This opinion states that harangues or direct allusions to the population should not be broadcast through the media and social networks and prohibits this from being done through paid advertising.

The promotional t-shirts, caps, flags and headbands that are used alluding to the candidates can only be used exclusively inside the premises of the political groups when an internal activity is carried out.

What the Law of Parties 33-18 says

Law 33-18 of Political Parties, Groups and Movements, in its article 44, indicates that the prohibited propaganda during the pre-campaign period includes the painting of the streets, sidewalks, curbs, power line poles, trees, with the colors, emblems or symbols of the candidate or the political party, group or movement he represents.

Others that are prohibited before the start of the pre-campaign are posters, billboards, banners, decals, stickers, badges, murals, loudspeakers (disco lights) and any other means of partisan advertising that is not placed in accordance with the provisions of said law or that is not placed in the premises of political parties, groups or movements, among other points.
