What the asunceno says about his candidates

A group of students from the Faculty of Social Sciences of the National University of Asunción (UNA) conducted a survey in the city of Asunción. The objective was to know what type of candidates the electorate prefers. The work was named; “Perceptions and political expectations of young adults and adult voters in Asunción, year 2022”.

Some 401 people were surveyed. 56% were unaffiliated, while 24% were affiliated with the PLRA, 15% with the ANR, and 6% with other parties. 69% of those surveyed were between 18 and 29 years old. While the remaining 31% corresponds to people aged 30 and over.

The survey was divided into two parts, first the questions with open answers, where the citizens themselves transcribed their ideas regarding the questions and the second part consisted of multiple choice.

OPEN QUESTIONS
Regarding the open questions, the first question was what type of profile do you like best for a candidate for Congress.

The most common responses were honesty, youth, inclusive leadership, and being an environmental and human rights activist.

When asked which projects they would like the candidates of their choice to promote, the most voted were the projects on education, physical and mental health, decent work and policies in favor of the LGBTQI+ community.

MULTIPLE CHOICE
Among the topics consulted in the multiple choice format, the respondents reflected certain preferences such as; the public transportation system, education, mental health care and more.
Regarding public transport, the citizens requested the change of the bus fleet, electric or alternative transport, reduction of the price of the ticket and the increase of the frequency (which operates 24 hours).

Another of the data surveyed was by what means citizens find out about political news. The vast majority say they use social networks as a platform for information. Secondly, alternative journalistic platforms appear (independent media that have websites) and, thirdly, traditional newspapers.

MORE DETAILS
This survey was carried out for 40 days and began in the first days of April.

“We have to learn to work with these issues. People want certain things, but the political class does not listen to them. Something so basic that it is never resolved is the regulation of collectives. That is why it is important to carry out these surveys to find out what the citizens say,” said Federico Enciso, the coordinator of the survey.

The work was done by the following people; Federico Enciso, Mauricio Kiese, Analía Velázquez, David Aquino, Dahiana Sanabria, Yanin Barreto, Héctor Ruiz, Paula Cairet, Ricardo Cabello and Aldo Aquino.
