What products fell in price after the IGV exemption and by how much?

This month began to apply the Law that exempts the payment of the to five products of the basic basket. In this context, Indecopi confirms that in recent weeks the prices of fresh chicken eggs, sugar, and pasta have been reduced.

But by how much were prices reduced?

In the case of brown sugar, it was reported that before the IGV the price was S/ 4.27 and then fell to S/ 4.06 in the supply markets, while in supermarkets the price fell from S/ 5.03 to S/ 4.43.

Regarding bulk eggs, the market price went from S/ 7.81 per kilo to S/ 7.20.

On the other hand, for noodles, Indecopi reviewed the most expensive and cheapest brands. The most expensive brands of noodles cost S/ 3.76 for a half kilo two weeks ago, but it dropped to S/ 3.57. However, the cheapest brands of half-kilo noodles went from costing S/ 2.22 to S/ 2.09.

What products did not drop in price?

However, not in all cases there is a price reduction. Of the total products, only eviscerated chicken raised its prices in the supply markets during Indecopi’s monitoring.

As is known, before the IGV exemption, between April 25 and 26, the price of a kilo of chicken was S/ 9.25. But, between May 09 and 10, it was reported that it rose to S / 10.43 per kilo.

That said, it is estimated that the bird has increased by S / 1.18 during the last week. And even, according to Midagri, at the beginning of the week the price of chicken costs S/ 9.49 per kilo in retail markets.

Another product that presented difficulties in reducing its price was bread, since it continued to be sold at S/ 0.29 per unit between April 25 and May 10.

It is worth mentioning that both the Peruvian Poultry Association (APA) and the Peruvian Association of Bakery and Pastry Entrepreneurs (Aspan) had warned that their products would not present changes due to the VAT exemption, due to errors in the law.
