Flores Police Chief Gonzalo Larrosa submitted his resignation due to an ongoing administrative investigation at the Ministry of the Interior. The Minister of the Interior, Luis Alberto Heber, accepted the resignation.
The investigation is related to chats that Larrosa received while he was director of the National Rehabilitation Institute (INR) during the Broad Front government, between March 2017 and November 2018, by people outside the Ministry.
It should be noted that in 2018, Larrosa was dismissed from the INR for providing false information about the death of an inmate at the Libertad Prison. In addition, in recent months, he was accused by former National Police Director Mario Layera of being responsible for authorizing conjugal visits by Mexican drug trafficker Gerardo González Valencia, known as El Cuini.
These visits, carried out in the Central Jail, allowed the drug trafficker to meet with the Italian mobster Rocco Morabito.
The Ministry of the Interior told Underlined that the administrative investigation is not related to González Valencia or Morabito.
The Flores Police Headquarters will be temporarily in charge of the deputy chief, Pablo Vicchi, until someone is appointed.
