What is the INAI and what is it for in Mexico?

The functions of this institute are fundamental, as they contribute to the construction of a democratic and transparent country.

Meaning of Inai

The National Institute of Transparency, Access to Information and Protection of Personal Data (Inai) is the body in charge of guaranteeing access to public information and the protection of the personal data of citizens.

When was it created?

On June 11, 2002, the decree that created the then Federal Institute for Access to Public Information (IFAI) was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF), which began operating in June 2003. In 2014, changed the name to INAI.

Since then, this autonomous body has been responsible for promoting the culture of transparency and government accountability.

What are its functions and what is it for?

The Inai must ensure that any authority at the federal level, autonomous bodies, political parties, trusts, public funds and unions; or any natural or legal person or person who receives and uses public resources or performs acts of authority delivers public information to any citizen who requests it.
