President Claudia Sheinbuam announced a new social development project: a universal pension for women between 60 and 64 years old.
This program would cost close to 22.1 billion pesos in its first year of operation, according to budget estimates made by the IMCO (Mexican Institute for Competitiveness).
This project will be applied gradually, according to the age groups of the women in the target group.
It is estimated that, by 2023, when coverage of all women 60 to 64 years of age The cost is around 69,500 pesos from the public budget.
This program seeks to reduce poverty in one of the most vulnerable groups at a socioeconomic level: elderly adults. The program adds a gender perspective.
Although currently men and women over 65 years of age receive a pension, this new project seeks to promote gender equality and greater security for women in their retirement.
