The National Consumer Service (Sernac) has launched a security alert regarding a cell phone charger that could represent a significant risk to users. The agency warns that the device has a manufacturing defect that could cause the connected phone to overheat, which increases the risk of starting a fire.
He charger In question is the Boost Charger Pro model from the Belkin brand, specifically the BPD005 model. This device, designed for fast and wireless charging, has problems related to its lithium-ion component. This failure could lead to overheating of the charger, endangering both the device and those who use it.
From April 2023, this charger has been available in the Chilean market. Although no serious incidents have been reported in the country, internationally, 12 cases of overheating have already been documented in countries such as Japan, China, Turkey and Hong Kong. Fortunately, none of these incidents have caused injuries, but the latent risk has led the authorities to issue the alert.
Faced with this danger, both Sernac and the Belkin company recommend that consumers who own this charger stop using it immediately. Additionally, it is suggested to avoid placing it near wet surfaces or flammable materials, as this could aggravate the risk of fire. Emphasis is also placed on not disposing of the device in conventional trash or recycling containers.
Belkin has enabled a refund or credit process for users who wish to return the charger. Consumers can access an online form that will allow them to coordinate the return of the device with authorized providers. In this way, we seek to avoid any danger associated with the use of the defective charger.
