President Gustavo Petro said in a Twitter message that the government is thinking of offsetting the rise in gasoline prices “to bikers through the Mandatory Traffic Accident Insurance (Soat)”.

He said that a proposal from the Democratic Center on the increase in gasoline coincides with the structuring that is being done.
“The ACPM that affects cargo and passenger transport is not touched. We seek to compensate bikers through the Soat”, said the president.
At the International Insurance Convention held in Cartagena, Miguel Gómez Martínez, president of Fasecolda, He assured that the details of giving benefits to motorcycle owners if they are insured with Soat are not known, since precisely the owners of these vehicles are the most important evaders of this mandatory insurance.

Likewise, he said that the discount could be that at the time of tanking the motorcyclists show their Soat and get the discount.
In this regard, he stated that “the problem of control would arise, since it would not be possible to demonstrate immediately that this Soat is legal or that it is not from another”.

If it is about using a discount for those who buy the Soat so that they can benefit from a cheap rate, he recalled that the Soat is in a critical situation due to evasion, the fraud of several IPS and the situation of accidents and sand estimates that companies will lose $300 billion with that insurance.
He recalled that the Soat for motorcycles already has a subsidy, since they pay much less for their level of risk, while cars pay a much higher Soat than they should pay for the lower risk. Anything that increases the weight of the subsidy makes it difficult to do so.
