This Monday, July 18, Jhonny Omar Chávez Bascopé was sworn in as the new commander of the Santa Cruz Police, position that he will carry out after serving as national director of the Special Force to Fight Crime (Felcc), for almost eight months.
Chávez directed the Felcc from November 22, 2021, but today the Minister of Government, Eduardo del Castillo, made the change after his oath thus replacing Colonel Erick Holguínwho was assigned to the Cochabamba Police Command.
The new commander was born in Cochabamba, He was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel with a diploma in police administration studies on January 1, 2014, and his name appeared on the promotion list of that administration.
In addition, he directed the national Felcc in the last eight months. Chavez Bascope developed his career in the Special Force to Fight Drug Trafficking (Felcn), even his name stands out in an anti-narcotics operation carried out in March 2014, on the border with Chile, where more than 100 kilos of controlled substances were seized.
His change is due to the new police restructuring, months after some members of the olive green institution were involved in irregular acts and corruption.
The interim general commander of the Bolivian Police, Colonel Orlando Vladimir Ponce, He was the one who determined the changes in the General Staff, specifying for the most part new police chiefs for the commands and departmental directorates.
Ponce was inaugurated last July 1 and today, at the swearing-in of the country’s new police chiefs, accompanied to Minister Del Castillo. On the occasion he demanded commitment and, above all, dignity from his comrades.
In this line, The Minister of Government assured that with the restructuring of the Police, the stage of “reconciliation” of the institution with the people concludes Bolivian, which gives way to the fight against corruption.
After the possession, the police chiefs hold an institutional meeting.
