What is a blog and what is it for?

A Blog is a website or a section of a website, whose main content is text and which is usually updated frequently. It can be used for personal purposes, for those people who like to express their ideas and experiences through writing or for commercial purposes within an organic positioning strategy (SEO).

Generally, a website has fixed information pages, which depending on each one can be the line of business, means of contact, billing and more. The update of said content is not necessary, instead, the nature of a blog is dynamic.

The term “blog” was coined in 1999, Peter Merholz, web developer, from California, USA. According to Hubspot, a digital marketing software company, blogs are the fifth most trusted source of information online.

Each blog is an exclusive means of communication for the person or organization to which it belongs; you do not have to adhere to the rules of social media and therefore have more freedom of expression.

The features that distinguish each blog post are as follows, in descending order: title, summary, text (usually 300+ words), share buttons on social networks or by email and space for comments from readers.

  • Monetization. Sell ​​advertising space within the blog, in order to obtain an income.
  • blog post. It is each note or blog posts, where a specific issue is usually addressed. The different entries can be grouped by common themes.
  • interlinking. They are links within each entry, which can lead to other notes on the same blog or to another page, for example, the “contact” page.
  • link building. It is the task of placing the URL or link of a blog post on an external site, in order to acquire traffic (readers) from that other site. There are several ways to do this here, but you always need permission from the owner of the other site or blog.
