Walter Harms, national deputy for the ANR “Honor Colorado” (chartist), affirmed that the National Constitution establishes influence peddling as a cause for losing the investiture of a legislator. He stated that the deputy Celeste Amarilla claimed an act of bribery, extortion and blackmail.
“In the award of contracts with public entities for the provision of school meals. The fact is typified as a crime and can also be configured as influence peddling. Therefore, the Chamber of Deputies should analyze the request, but I am not taking it for granted”, he expressed.
The legislator affirms that his bench will only debate the issue next week, specifically on Tuesday, which is the day of these meetings.
When asked about the differences between the Amarilla case and that of Erico Galeano, a deputy linked to organized crime by the National Anti-Drug Secretariat (Senad), mentioned that in the latter case, there is no evidence of influence peddling.
“They are all accusations and complaints. There is no proven act of influence peddling, so one act cannot be compared to another. About Celeste Amarilla we are talking about the fact that she herself is implicated in an act of corruption, and bribery, otherwise she has nothing to do with Erico Galeano, “she said.
He finally said that Celeste Amarilla is an exaggeration regarding his misconduct within the Lower House.
“It does not go absolutely by the opinion that you may have of Horacio Cartes, we do not consider. Coming from her, anything is possible. What we are fed up with is their permanent misconduct and their lack of adherence to the rules of coexistence that should exist and, above all, to the regulations. She gives an absolutely informal and unpleasant image to the House”, she commented.
It should be remembered that 41 votes are needed for the expulsion of the legislator.
