It was determined that the Electoral Institute of Mexico City (IECM) correctly evaluated representation by party and not by coalition.
“The Electoral Institute of Mexico City did not reassign the parliamentary groups, but rather acted in accordance with the coalition agreements of the parties.
“The grievances regarding the limits of over-representation and under-representation in the project are proposed to be classified as unfounded because the respective calculation was correct that the base of the seven candidacies should belong to the parties of the coalition agreement,” indicates the draft ruling approved on August 25.
Morena and its allied parties will have a total of 43 of the 66 seats in the Mexico City Congress, falling just one vote short of the qualified majority needed to make changes to the capital’s Constitution as well as appointments such as that of the next person to head the Attorney General’s Office.
PAN, PRI, PRD and Movimiento Ciudadano challenged the decision of the IECM on the distribution of plurinominal seats, since the Institute endorsed the resignation of seven legislators from Morena to join PT and PVEM. With this, Morena managed to have nine plurinominal deputies instead of just two.
The deputies of the new legislature of the city’s Congress will be sworn in this Sunday, September 1, however PAN and Movimiento Ciudadano have indicated that they will challenge the decision before the Superior Chamber of the TEPJF.
