Professionals from different areas point out that when “Your mom” responded to the criticism of a citizen who saw her passing by at the last military parade, President Dina Boluarte showed that she does not control her emotionsThey said she should behave accordingly and be more tolerant.
Political scientist Paula Távara: “It is the same way he has reacted all the time”
In addition to being disrespectful, I think it is out of place for any public official. There is a code of ethics for public service and there are behaviors that are expected, even more so from the highest official in the Nation. And responding in that way to criticism from the public, of course, is outside of those behaviors, outside of what one expects from the function.
I think we are talking about a person who still does not identify what her position in the sector really is, what the honorability of the position she occupies is, and therefore does not know how to react as a public servant but as a person from a passionate perspective. It is the same way she has reacted all the time, in this case it is an insult, but also when she refuses to give the floor to journalists, when she goes and shows that this time she does not have a Rolex on display, when she appears at a Paris airport wearing a sweatshirt when she is the representative of the Nation in any public space, even in the Immigration queue. She is showing that she has not understood the high office she occupies.
I find it hard to believe that he lost his temper because I think he is someone who never knows how to play his role. This was an insult, but he has shown us on many occasions that he does not know how to play his role.
Psychiatrist Martín Nizama: “You must have tolerance and know how to manage your emotions”
A president represents the people and is the highest expression of the population’s recognition of its leaders, therefore he has the obligation to show respect for the citizens.
In this context of reciprocity and respect between the ruler and the governed, the person in power must be tolerant, because sometimes there are expressions of popular indignation and the leader will have to know how to manage his emotions and not fall into vulgar responses, even if there are verbal, attitudinal or gestural aggressions on the part of the public, which is also a demonstration of the right of the person to express his feelings.
Politicians must have the greatness to withstand popular indignation, maintain composure and not give free rein to vulgar phrases inappropriate for a ruler at a civic event such as National Day, where the highest values of national identity are displayed.
Analyst Alberto Adrianzén: “Disdain for public opinion”
First of all, it is incredible that a president gives a five-hour speech, which shows the contempt she has for public opinion, including the parliamentarians who have to listen to five hours of an empty speech. And just as she despises public opinion, it is not strange that she responds in this way to a person who accused her of being corrupt.
There is no longer any emotional or political relationship between the president, society and public opinion in general. No one in their right mind would give such a long speech, no one who knows the ABCs of politics could do so, which expresses their lack of interest.
In reality, a five-hour speech hides what he is accused of: the issue of Rolex watches, the issue of social protest, the issue of not giving accounts, his friendship with some regional presidents.
Anthropologist Eduardo Ballón: “It reveals an inability to face reality”
Her reaction is a clear example of her inner nature, her intolerance and her inability to face reality head on. Her reaction is not typical of an authority, it is not typical of a person who claims to be democratic, it is absolutely inappropriate for someone who defines herself as the mother of all Peruvians. It is, obviously, a reaction in which she shows how she understands her power.
It is an act consistent with the decisions they have taken with Colonel Harvey Colchado, to give an example. Or with their frequent opinions on the opposition. In that sense, their behaviour reveals without a doubt their authoritarian nature, it reveals a part of the lady’s personality that she has tried to permanently deny. This gesture reveals the use she makes of her supposed status as a victim.
It seems to me that this is the face of conservative authoritarianism that President Boluarte embodies with enthusiasm.
Lawyer Ana María Vidal: “The saying is sexist and attacks half of the population”
The fact of attacking mothers is already sexist, it is using gender stereotypes to insult. She, although she is the highest representative of the Nation, is a public servant and is committing an infraction that could fit into sexual harassment, given that it is a saying with sexist connotations.
As a public servant, this should serve to remove her from her position if she were subject to the same procedure as for all state employees. I believe that this would warrant an administrative disciplinary procedure against her.
This type of behaviour is regrettable, as it ends up being sexist and reinforces the insult towards women, systematically attacking half of the population who are victims of aggression simply for being women. It is a very naturalised attack, but no less serious for that.
Citizens have the right to criticize. People who are in public office have the obligation to respond appropriately and justify why the statement is false, and this is not the case. What they are doing is being direct and responding in a way that damages the dignity of women.
It reflects the disdain towards women, who can use them as an insult for being questioned. I repeat, any public servant should be subject to administrative proceedings for acts that constitute sexual harassment, because they are statements with sexist connotations.
