Equipos Consultores carried out a survey, last December, on two key reforms that the government is carrying out: education and social security.
The polling company asked the respondents (704 people over 18 years of age, residents in towns with more than 2,000 inhabitants throughout the national territory) “if they have heard of educational transformation.”
A) Yes, less than four out of ten Uruguayans (37%) heard talk and have a clear idea of what the reform proposes, while the same amount is aware of the subject but without a clear idea. While, one in four (25%) He was not aware of this reform.
According to the Equipos report, the issue “is having an important role on the agenda”, since almost three quarters of the population heard about it, but “specific knowledge of the reform is reduced to half of this figure”.
Likewise, when they consulted everyone (even those who were unaware of the educational transformation) What was your opinion on this matter?a 31% were “strongly agree or agree”versus 37% who consider themselves “strongly disagree or disagree”. 13% of the population surveyed neither agree nor disagree and 19% did not give an opinion.
The distribution is almost in thirds among those who have a favorable, contrary or undefined position.
In partisan terms, a 60% of those who consider themselves to be on the left or center-left disagree with the educational reform (compared to 16% who agree). The reverse result occurs with those who identify with the right or center-right: 56% agree, 15% disagree. the citizens of hub (“axis of the balance”, according to Teams) are located mostly against: 26% approve and 39% disapprove this reform.
Social Security
The panorama of knowledge about this government plan is quite different, since 80% of the population heard about the social security reform.
This percentage is divided, again, between those who have heard and have a clear idea (33%) and those who do not have a clear idea (47%). Only one in five people (20%) did not hear about this reform.
As with the educational transformation, the in-depth knowledge of this reform is less than those who know it in general terms.
However, in terms of opinions, a 41% were “strongly disagree or disagree”versus 26% who answered “strongly agree or agree”. Those who did not agree or disagree represented 16%, while 17% of those surveyed did not answer.
The negative balance is almost 10 percentage points higher when compared to the educational transformation.
Finally, the ideological differences show a population of left and center-left”strongly disagree with the reform”, with 71%. On the contrary, only 6% approve. On the other side of the spectrum, the exact half of those who identify themselves right and center-right approve this reform, compared to 19% who reject it.
The center of the electorate “presents intermediate judgments with a negative balance similar to the total population”: 26% agree while 34% disagree (24% neither agree nor disagree).
