Colombian comedian Fabiola Emilia Posada Pinedo, affectionately known as ‘La Gorda Fabiola’, passed away on Thursday at the age of 61 after facing health complications in a Bogotá clinic. Her death was confirmed by comedian Pedro González, known as Don Jediondo, in an interview with Caracol Radio. Her death has shocked the country, where she will be remembered as an emblematic figure of entertainment.

According to Pedro Gonzales in the interview, the cause of Fabiola’s death was an infection in the respiratory and cardiovascular systems, which was added to her pre-existing health problems.

Throughout her life, ‘La Gorda Fabiola’ battled diabetes, which she developed at age 32, in part due to her obesity. In past interviews, she shared how the symptoms of her illness led her to seek medical attention after becoming pregnant with her son, Nelson David Polanía.

“When I developed diabetes, I was a 32-year-old woman, 147 kilos overweight, and I began to feel an insatiable thirst, an overwhelming appetite, a lot of sleep and fatigue. I just wanted to sleep, and on top of that, I began to see blurry vision.”

With more than 30 years of experience in Colombian television, Fabiola became an icon of humor in the country. Her charisma won the affection of the public, consolidating her career in programs that made entire generations laugh. In addition to her career in entertainment, she also stood out as a social communicator in the newspaper ‘La República’ and the magazine ‘Contigo’.

La Gorda Fabiola is remembered for her talent and her unmatched sense of humor, as well as for her courage in the fight against her health problems. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of Colombians who today mourn and lament her demise.
