After the announcement this Wednesday by the newly elected president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, to reopen the Colombian-Venezuelan border, citizens expressed their opinion on the matter.
This June 22, it was learned that Petro and the government of Nicolás Maduro communicated to talk about the situation between the two nations, as well as with the purpose of reopening the border. The same one that has been closed for 6 years.
Likewise, given this situation, citizens who frequent the border areas of Colombia and Venezuela expressed that “it would be best if the dialogue takes place and they open it. We would be grateful if they open it,” said an interviewee for RPTV news.

Similarly, the interviewee expressed that there are many people affected by this situation on the border. Especially “older adults”, for which she hopes that the dialogue between the two nations “becomes a reality and does not remain in words.”
I have communicated with the Venezuelan government to open the borders and restore the full exercise of human rights on the border.

On the other hand, citizens of social networks commented on their opinions on Twitter after the Colombian president reported on his conversation with the Venezuelan government.
One of these users applauded this position and indicated that “What a wonderful president! Cúcuta thanks you.” While another commented, he questioned “How much money did Colombian and Venezuelan businessmen stop selling in this madness of ideologies?”
However, other citizens were dissatisfied: “According to you, with the border closed, no Venezuelans pass through? I invite you to come to Cúcuta and learn about reality, “said a user.
While, Ripe confirmed the communication with Petro and expressed that he congratulated him on his victory. He explained that they talked about the future between both nations and the restoration of border normality.
