On Tuesday, Senators AdRián Peña and German Coutinhotogether with the deputies Conrado Rodríguez and Jorge AlvearThey met with the president Luis Lacalle Pou to discuss proposed changes to pension reform.
After the meeting, Senator Peña stated in a press conference that they presented themselves three specific proposals, which were accepted by the government. “One of them has to do with the possibility of effective retirement at age 63, with a certain condition in terms of years contributed“, he pointed.
At this point, the Colorados propose that a person with 38 years of contributions can retire at age 63, with 35 years of contributions at 64, and with 30 years at 65.
The second proposal refers to a design correction of the reform, since those born on December 31, 1972 retired by one system and the next day by another, which was a design error. «The Colorado Party is providing a solution to stagger that; It has a one-time cost, which is why it was accepted in a good way,” said Peña.
There was “good spirits” between the parties
The third proposal deals with a reduction of the IASS. “How much, we are still analyzing it,” she said.
“It is a package that will not exceed US$100 million in cost, we believe that it greatly improves the situation of the people and is on the way to improving the reform,” said Peña.
When asked if there will be an agreement with the prospect of a vote on Thursday, Peña pointed out: “I don’t know whether to vote on Thursday, we are managing the times very prudently, there are the compañeros who are in commission, this needs to be taken with a lot of responsibility. But I think we are close to this being agreed. There is very good spirit on both sides, there always was.”
