When you make a purchase in a business it is important that you request invoices with the idea of not only being clear about the goods you are purchasing but also to have some guarantee before the seller against any discouraging situation that may occur to a product and also to be able to declare all your consumptions which include the VAT to the DIAN.
Therefore, it is key that you request this type of document whenever you make your purchases, since the person who delivered the merchandise will not pay the necessary taxes so that the country can invest in security, education and health, taking into account that they must at some point declare all kinds of movements before the authorities. What can happen if you do not pay VAT to the DIAN
According to a statement published by the entity on its official website, they indicate: “Not paying VAT or Impoconsumo constitutes a criminal offense called omission of a collecting agent, which can lead to a prison sentence of 48 to 108 months and a fine equivalent to twice the value not recorded, without exceeding the value equivalent to 1,020. 000 of UVT ($48,006 million)”, they point out.

Keep in mind the important motto that the National Tax and Customs Directorate has: “Play fair to Colombia” with the idea of being up to date with this citizen commitment.
It is important to remember that if you do not pay this tax before the VAT declaration, you could have default interest that applies from the expiration of the period to be up to date with this type of obligations.

“The default interest on unrecorded taxes is settled daily at the current interest rate: until March 31 it is 31.3%; in the month of February it was 32.97%; in January of 32.98%. This shows how costly it is NOT to record the amounts collected as value added tax or consumption tax, not to mention that non-compliance can lead to complaints before the Attorney General’s Office,” they say.
