Photomults are a legal mechanism to detect traffic offenses and are regulated by the Law 1843 of 2017. While they can detect several common infractions, but their use is limited to specific areas where the cameras are installed. What are these infractions?
To properly explain, photomults are photographic shots that are made to the license plates that commit traffic offenses. This methodology, which is applied with cameras located in various posts, lights, route bridges, among others, watches over road safety.
Currently, these are the infractions detected by the photomultic cameras:
-Port the mandatory traffic accident insurance (SOAT).
-Transitate without the technical-mechanical review per day.
-Passe the red traffic light.
-Transitate speeding.
-Do not fulfill the restriction of the beak and plaque.
-They on the zebra for being a pedestrian passage.
The cameras are at strategic points, including main roads and areas with high incidence of accidents.
In addition, they capture images of the vehicle that commits an infraction, allowing to identify the vehicle plate and the exact moment in which the lack ofto. The amounts can vary depending on whether the fines can respond to type A, B, C, D, E infractions
The owners receive notifications on the fines imposed through email or by postal mail and must be paid within the established period to avoid additional surcharges.

What are the prices of the fines according to their categories?
The fines in Colombia are detailed in the National Land Transit Code. It is a very long list which divides infractions into categories A, B, C, D and E.
In this sense, Segment A is the slightest category of fines and E, the most serious. Likewise, the costs of the infractions are determined according to the current legal minimum wage (SMLDV), which by 2025 is 47,450 pesos.
Type A Fine: $ 189,833 (approximately four daily legal wages). Includes infractions such as parking in prohibited places or not carrying mandatory vehicle documents
Type B fine: $ 379,600 (eight legal minimum wages). Facts such as driving without a license or expired license.
Type C fine: $ 711,750 (15 legal minimum wages). It applies to infractions such as driving with overcrowded or transit by restricted areas.

Type D fine: $ 1,423,500 (30 daily legal minimum wages). It includes serious offenses such as driving without soat or driving against.
Type E fine: The most expensive, since they are the ones that serious road safety. These carry a sanction of $ 2,135,250.
Recall that fines in Colombia are detailed in the National Earth Transit Code. With the almost 10% increase that registered the current minimum wage, the infractions also raised their cost.
