Preventive detention was replaced by the judge of the Third Criminal Court of the First Judicial Circuit, Baloísa Marquínez, who replaced this measure with a less severe one such as the prohibition of leaving the country without prior judicial authorization.
West Valdés is investigated for the alleged commission of the crime of aggravated fraud.
Marquínez based his decision on the fact that, if convicted, the minimum sentence for the crime under investigation is five years and he has already been detained for this time.
Valdés was also facing criminal proceedings for the alleged crime against the public administration, in the open investigation for $9 million disbursed by the Savings Bank that were used to cover part of the financial gap that threatened Financial Pacific to be liquidated, but was dismissed.
