Beneficiaries of BPS housing solutions will have access to veterinary assistance for their pets

The Social Security Bank (BPS) and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of the Republic (UDELAR) signed a collaboration agreement for the primary care, through teaching hours of that educational institution, of the pets of the 6,000 people who live in the 258 complexes of the social security organization throughout the country. The purpose is to facilitate responsible ownership and animal welfare.

The value of this initiative will be 500,000 pesos, explained the president of the BPS, Alfredo Cabrera after signing the agreement with the dean of Veterinary Medicine, José Piaggio.

The official explained that the agreement will be valid for one year, but with the option to renew it. He also considered that pets play a relevant emotional role in the elderly, and improve their quality of life.

Dean Piaggio, meanwhile, explained that Veterinary Medicine teachers and students will be in charge of epidemiological surveys, primary care, disease prevention, parasite elimination and the promotion of responsible pet ownership to help people manage the health and behavioral situations of their pets.

In addition to collaborating in financing the teaching hours to carry out these activities, the BPS is committed to providing logistical support if necessary, such as transfers outside the metropolitan area, to facilitate the execution of the tasks.
