This Wednesday June 29 is National holiday for public and private workers, on the occasion of celebrating the Saint Peter and Saint Paul Day. In addition, tribute is paid to all fishermen in the country.
Why is this Wednesday, June 29, a holiday?
June 29 is considered a holiday in the calendar because it celebrates the feast of San Pedro and San Pablo. This date is one of the most important in the Catholic world, since homage is paid to the apostles of Jesus.
Likewise, Fisherman’s Day is also celebrated, since Saint Peter and Saint Paul are the saints who guide the path of fishermen, who day by day carry out their work in the middle of the sea.

Throughout the country, different festivals are held to pay homage to these saints, as well as to the work of all the men and women who are dedicated to fishing.
Will I get triple pay if I work that day?
Katy Noriega, main associate of Philippi Prietocarrizosa Ferrero Du & Uría, points out that if you work this June 29 (San Pedro and San Pablo), without substitute rest, you must pay: 1 daily remuneration for the work carried out, 1 daily remuneration for the unused holiday rest and 1 remuneration as a surcharge (100% of the daily remuneration) provided by law. This is the current criterion adopted by Sunafil.
That is, the person would have to receive by law a triple payment for that day worked.
What other upcoming days have been declared holidays?
Recently 7 non-working days have been declared. Through Supreme Decree No. 033-2022-PCM, published on April 1, 2022, the following non-working days were declared for the public sector: May 2; June 24; August 29; October 7 and 31; and December 26 and 30, 2022 (pending). The hours left to work must be compensated within the following 10 days or in the opportunity provided by each entity.
The private sector can take advantage of these non-working days. If the employer and the workers agree, the latter may enjoy the aforementioned non-working days; however, later they must compensate for the hours they stopped working. The form and timing of the compensation is decided by agreement; but, in the absence of this, the employer decides.
