We will defend Mexico and migrants: Sheinbaum

In her first meeting with fellow nationals residing in the United States, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo trusted that “little by little things will settle down” regarding the immigration policy of Donald Trump’s government, and she confirmed that she will always defend them and also Mexico.

“I know that it has not been easy for you in recent times, that you have had a difficult time and what we have sought is to improve in the consulates,” she said at the Mexican Cultural Institute, where she was received with mariachi music and shouts of “you are not alone!”

He asked the compatriots to let them know “everything that is still wrong, what they feel is not working well (because) our interest is that the consulates not only help Mexicans with everything that has to do with procedures and other issues that are necessary.”

He stressed that he always speaks well of the Mexican men and women who live here; “I always say that we are workers, honest people and what we want is good treatment.”

After meeting with the President of the United States, Donald Trump, and with the Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, at the end of the draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, he highlighted the changes made in consulates to convert them into spaces to support Mexicans and so that they “feel embraced by the consuls.”

He expressed that efforts are being made to improve its operation, although “there is still a long way to go, but know that we are with you.”

Sheinbaum Pardo highlighted that the contribution of Mexicans in the United States is fundamental, as is the fact that millions maintain support for their families in Mexico, “which we greatly appreciate.

“And we will always be in contact defending them and defending Mexico wherever we are because we are an extraordinary country.”

Today, the celebration for the 7 years of the transformation

At the meeting held, he highlighted that this Saturday he will lead the celebration for the seven years of transformation in Mexico.

“I am very positive, we are closing 2025 and I think everything is going quite well,” highlighting, among others, the 13 percent increase in the minimum wage for the following year, which represents a cumulative increase, from 2019 to date, of 159 percent.

“It is something unique because for 36 years – of the neoliberal period – the minimum wage did not increase and that had an impact, among other things, on an increase in poverty and inequality, which led many Mexicans to migrate to the United States,” said the president.

Sheinbaum mentioned that these data contrast with the campaign carried out by the opposition against his government on social networks through “different mechanisms for purchasing accounts, voice of influencers and platforms.”

We have had, he added, “a very large offensive that is actually organized not only from Mexico, but also linked to many far-right groups from around the world.”

However, the head of the Executive stressed that “they have not made a dent, since in the most recent survey we have 74 percent approval.”

Finally, the president asked her compatriots to stay informed so that they can help spread the word about what is really happening in Mexico.

After this meeting, the President returned to Mexico on a plane from the Ministry of National Defense.
