After distancing himself from the Interinstitutional Commission that promoted the summit for the Census, Jhonny Fernandez, mayor of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, decided to seek allies to support his proposal not to go on a departmental strike so that the Government speeds up data collection in the countrywhich is why he approached two sectors: the trade unionists and carriers, with whom he vociferated his rejection of a new strike.

“We want to work,” was the harangue that Fernández launched before a large group of trade unionists and carriers, who on several occasions repeated the phraseensuring that in the event that the department goes on strike, they will go out to work normally to keep their economies safe.

The mayor indicated that when history calls for a fight, it is done for the welfare of the family, but considers that unemployment is not ideal for these times, since it seeks to reactivate the country’s economy after emerging from the global crisis due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“You I am asking the rector of the university (Uagrm) not to convene a few, that all the federations of trade unions and carriers sit down, that the neighborhood councils and all the sectors attend,” he said before the summit for the Census take place on the premises of the Medical College.

“Them I want to ask a question: Do you agree with going on strike?Do you want a strike of 24 or 48 hours? Do you want an indefinite strike? These were the key questions that the Mayor asked his allies, all of which were answered with a resounding ‘no’.

This is how the harangue arises: “We are going to work, we want to work”, with which he concluded his participation in the extended union.

But, while Fernández was in tune with the two sectors, the representatives of the Interinstitutional Committee for the Censuswere getting ready to participate in the summit to which more than 300 Santa Cruz institutions were summoned, an event that the mayor did not attend, leaving his chair empty.

Meanwhile, the authority continued with its activities and at night it moved to the Cambodromo, where the folkloric entry of La Paz residents was held.

In the place, consulted about his position by the Census, he expressed that will not abide by or summon the people of the capital of Santa Cruz to join the measure and assured that the line they should take in Santa Cruz, with the Government central and the National Institute of Statistics (INE), is the one of the dialogue, so that a commission determines when it is prudent to carry out the census survey.

“ANDDialogue is the best, why the confrontation, why the stoppages? That hurts the economy,” he said.

In addition, he recalled that he participated in a meeting of mayors, where 10 representatives of the capital cities of the country, plus El Altoheld at the seat of Government with the President of the State, Luis Arce, in which it was concluded that technical groups would be formed to ‘download’ the municipalities and socialize the schedule for the Census.

“When I went (for the meeting), I did proposals that we enter into dialogue. ANDIt’s the best, why the confrontation? Why stop them? That hurts the economy,” Fernández said, stressing that heHe proposed to the president that a space for dialogue be opened and that Santa Cruz be prioritized.

Meanwhile, he expressed agreement to learn that the rector of the Autonomous University Gabriel René Moreno (Uagrm), Vicente Cuéllar, will participate in a meeting to address the issue of the Census.

“I I’m so glad you’ve already been invited. Anow I hope there is no political hand, but let the technicians work, so that with the INE technicians, we can do an effective job for Santa Cruz. That is why we say that this is the path, dialogue. ANDIt’s the only way to get ahead, confrontation is not good“, he finished.
