HAVANA, Cuba. – “The only thing we want is justice,” say the relatives of Eloy Ernesto Chirino Luzardo, a young victim of a brutal attack on the 1st. of October. His attacker hit him in the head with a stone, causing a fracture to his skull.

Chirino Luzardo was in the operating room for four hours and will have to have a limited routine for a year due to the “serious injuries” to his brain mass, according to what he told CubaNet his mother, Yunanka Luzardo Palacio.

“The doctor told me that my son would never be the same boy again. It was a four-hour operation in which they had to remove brain mass and thoroughly clean the entire area where the stone was hit. He is currently receiving physical therapy because the left side of his body is not working well,” explained the interviewee.

According to the victim, the brutal attack occurred on the 1st. October after demanding that his neighbor Marcos Herrera Ruedas return the motorcycle battery that he had lent him several months ago.

“He didn’t want to give me the drums; all the time refusing and refusing. Then I grab him and remove the battery from his motorcycle, I get on the bicycle taxi and that’s when he gets it, he throws the rock at me and it hits me in the head,” said Chirino Luzardo.

One month after filing the complaint at the El Capri police station, in the municipality Orange Creekthe victim’s relatives learned that Herrera Ruedas had been detained and went to the police unit, of his own free will.

“We got there and a captain attended to us. When he searched on a machine [en los archivos] The complaint that we had made did not come out. I told the police that that was impossible and that they couldn’t let him go. [al acusado] because he had attacked my son and had caused him serious injuries,” explained Luzardo Palacio.

The next day, the mother says, she returned to the El Capri police unit, where she was informed that the attacker had been transferred and released due to an error in the criminal process.

For Vivian Luzardo Palacio, the victim’s aunt, her greatest concern lies in her nephew or sister meeting Herrera Ruedas in the neighborhood of La Perla, Arroyo Naranjo, where they reside, and a fatal outcome occurring.

“The police officer who treated me told me: ‘Don’t worry, mom, don’t worry, he’s going to go to prison anyway because he has to serve for that crime.’” However, the woman assures that, to this day, the attacker “walks around the neighborhood as if nothing had happened.”

“We are afraid that something worse could happen; That’s why our interest is that they finish searching and catching the boy because he continues walking through all the streets as if nothing had happened. We want the forces [del orden público] do justice,” he noted.

On the subject, a former lieutenant colonel of the National Revolutionary Police (PNR), who asked not to be identified for fear of reprisals, explained that the actions of law enforcement officers in this case do not correspond to what was established by the Ministry of the Interior (MININT). ).

“The attacker had an immediate security measure, that is, he should have been taken to a penitentiary center due to the severity of the attack. “We are talking about a violent attack where the victim’s life was at risk,” he explained.

“Another point to keep in mind is that they live in the same neighborhood and there may be a settling of scores on the part of the victim’s family. The investigators of the case must take into account all these factors to prevent another aggression from both parties,” he emphasized.

Likewise, the former military officer recommended that the victim’s relatives file a complaint with the National Directorate of the PNR and the Municipal Prosecutor’s Office before “it is too late and everything ends in tragedy.”
