The Senator Mario Castaño was captured this Tuesday in the Congress of the Republic, in the midst of the investigation that is being carried out against him for alleged acts of corruption related to cases of alleged routing of contracts in some regions of the country.
The legislator’s apprehension occurred minutes after his departure from the Senate floor, where the plenary session of the corporation was held.

After making this order, which was executed by agents of the Technical Investigation Corps (CTI) of the Prosecutor’s Office, the Liberal party spoke saying: “we respect due process and proceed from Justice.”
Senator Castaño is being investigated for his alleged responsibility in committing crimes such as improper interest in the conclusion of contracts, embezzlement by appropriation and extortion and it was the Supreme Court of Justice that issued an arrest warrant against him.
According to the complaints that have been filed, Castaño could be linked to a corruption network made up of more than 70 people, which would be dedicated to the redirection of contracts in some regions of the country.
Said network would be operating in departments such as Caldas, Cauca, Chocó, Risaralda, Tolima and Valle del Cauca.

Senator Castaño was re-elected in the last legislative elections held on March 13, with the support of more than 68,350 votes throughout the Colombian territory.
Nevertheless, After being captured, it is most likely that Castaño will not be able to resume his position as senator for four more years. from next July 20, the date on which a new legislative period begins.
